Why Le Marche? Today Le Marche remains a largely undiscovered jewel in the heart of Italy, located in Central Italy with the stunning Apennine mountains to its west and the beautiful Adriatic coast to the east. With its mountain borders and wonderful Adriatic coastline, it is slowly gaining in popularity with tourists. It boasts an array of stunning scenery which often surprises visitors, be it the breath-taking mountain backdrop, enchanting sunflower fields, mysterious woodland and river paths, or simply the beautiful coastline. Le Marche borders both Umbria and Tuscany, as well as Abruzzo, Lazio and Emilia-Romagna. However what you find in this area is very unique to Le Marche. Outdoor lovers are well looked after in Le Marche, with an abundance of outdoor activities available, including trekking, mountain biking, paragliding, nature trails, and in the winter months skiing.
Marche has two national parks, the Monti Sibillini National Park and the Gran Sasso Monti Della Laga National Park. The Monti Sibillini National Park actively promotes and protects wildlife habitats and is playing a key role in building a stable population of wolves and other animals such as the golden eagle. With the help of an active re-introduction program there are also now signs of the return of the Marsicana brown bear. There are even signs of the return of the elusive lynx. Cave of Frasassi Regional Park, located only 1hr 30mins from Il Vecchio Tasso is recognised as the most interesting limestone caves in Italy. Special tours with multi lingual guides lead you through a series of caves complete with small lakes, stalactites, huge stalagmites and onto the truly cavernous Abisso Ancona, a cave from ground to ceiling of 240m high. Above all else Le Marche is an area of Italy that is truly unspoilt by the times and continues to maintain its traditions and culture. A perfect holiday destination.
